Recently, 3M announced it would be discontinuing products containing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances — including Novec 72DA — in advance of expected regulatory changes. This means companies are seeking products that offer the same properties without the same potential impact on the environment. Solvents Company’s Versatill® HDt is more than suitable as a 3M Novec 72DA replacement thanks to its many comparable qualities that make it ideal for a wide range of industrial applications.
Versatill® HDt has azeotropic properties and is the basic member of the Versatill® family upon which other members are built and expanded. Versatill® HDt is an aggressive cleaner aimed at degreasing and cleaning metal and ceramic surfaces from oils, greases and other soils. It can be utilized in existing vapor degreasing equipment after minimal adjustments. Its performance and cost make it an excellent replacement option for other solvents such as CFCs, PFCs, HFEs, HCFCs (HCFC-141b and HCFC-225) and aqueous cleaners.

Common Use Cases
Versatill® HDt is an effective drop-in replacement for HFE 72DA solvents, providing comparable performance in numerous processes. Among the many use cases for our 3M 72DA product include:
- Precision cleaning — This solvent can be used to clean electronics and high-tech components. It cleans with precision without causing damage to the highly sensitive elements being cleaned.
- Degreasing — Our Novec replacement is ideally suited for vapor degreasing, thanks to its low surface tension and high solvency power. It is effective in removing oil, grease and other hydrophobic substances from a variety of surfaces.
- Cooling — When used in heat transfer applications, the non-conductive properties of this solvent prevent electrical discharges that can lead to hazardous situations.
- Moisture displacement — Versatill® HDt also can be used to displace moisture, drying and protecting sensitive electrical components from corrosion.
- Carrier solvent — This product also serves as an effective carrier solvent for depositing materials such as lubricants or silicones onto various substrates.
